Welcome!
Thanks for joining me. I’m really excited to be starting this journey with you.
I’m running for the Board of Education because I love public schools in the nerdiest way possible. I’m genuinely thrilled for the chance to give back to our town in this way. When I thought about how I wanted to run my campaign, a few things felt really important right from the start:
First, I want it to be apolitical. School board seats are meant to serve the entire community, no matter where people land politically. That’s how it should be, and that’s how I pledge to run my campaign.
Second, I want it to be useful. Education can sometimes feel hard to get into because there are so many acronyms, terms, and ideas that people just assume you know without anyone ever really explaining them. I believe our schools are the heart of our community, and that means they should be accessible to everyone. Families should feel comfortable joining the conversation. No one should feel left out of a meeting just because of confusing jargon.
That’s why, each week, I’ll be sharing posts on different topics in education. The goal is to give you a simple overview so you feel confident when things come up, whether it’s in a conversation with your child’s teacher or in a Board of Education meeting. We’ll look at questions like: How does our state funding formula work? How does Special Education work? What’s the difference between an IEP and a 504 plan? Who makes decisions at the district level? And, of course, what do all those acronyms actually mean?
If there’s a topic you’d like me to cover, I’d love to hear your ideas. This space is meant to be useful to you.
